Interesting question. Unfortunately, I think if it has any effect, it will be negative. It costs a lot more to eat healthy than it does to eat cheap! So when people are stranded for money, they try to get the most for their dollars. And unfortunately, fast food, such as McDonald and Burger King (and KFC, Pizza Hut, etc. . .) can sell enough food for a few dollars to keep a whole family satisfied.
A very clear exemple: It costs a lot less to buy 1lb of hamburger meat that countains 37% fat, than to buy 1lb hamburger meat that countains only 4 to 6 % fat! And when you have hungry children to feed. . .you need to make your money go far enough to satisfy them.
In addition, when people are depressed, they tend to find comfort in food. . .and usually not "healthy" food! Chocolate is a good exemple: ingredients are known to raise the level of dopamine concentration (or "happy" drug) in the brain.

So. . .I wouldn't expect any obese people to loose weight because they are unemployed! On the contrary!
