Facebook Phishing Campaign Wants Your Passwords
By Andrew Brandt

Yet another new phishing campaign targeting users of Facebook struck over the Halloween holiday weekend. After scammers began filling inboxes last week with bogus “Facebook update” attachments, this weekend we saw a different group at work. Employing URLs with random domain names registered under the .eu top-level domain, the campaign looks similar to messages distributed in a recent series of phishing campaigns that attempt to convince the user that the mail comes from a legitimate source, such as the FDIC, IRS, HMRC (the UK’s tax authority), your IT department, or any of several well-known banks.

The email messages, which use a forged From: address that makes the message appear to originate from the legitimate facebookmail.com domain, and were timed for just after Facebook’s highly publicized changes to its homepage had just gone live, clearly indicate that the phishers were going for the jugular. When you follow the link, you’re presented with a login dialog identical to that used by Facebook. Once you enter your password into that form, you’re presented with a page titled “Account Update” where you’re prompted to download and execute something called the Facebook Update Tool.

The messages read, in part:

In an effort to make your online experience safer and more enjoyable, Facebook will be implementing a new login system that will affect all Facebook users. These changes will offer new features and increased account security. Before you are able to use the new login system, you will be required to update your account.

Hmm,, You told me in your PM that you Have a Mac and you are only having trouble with Facebook, Right? That being the case and you are able to log on here ok, I really doubt its your computer rather a Facebook glitch, Facebook messes up a lot really, I would try to manually Log in, Erase the Log in info pops into the log in box and type the user name and password yourself, If that does not work, it would probably be easier to just set up a new Facebook account, as far as clearing Cache and Cookies on a Mac, I have no Idea, you should be able to go into "Help" and search "clear cache" and "clear cookies" for instructions, Good Luck,

What do you think NuN ? any Ideas?

Don't forget to be on the alert for wall spamming there too. Spammers are hitting social sites quite hard leading up to Christmas.

I've almost given up on my facebook, I cant communicate with anyone everytime I try to send a msg to a friend or relative, it logs me out, I did see a thing about google chrome???? alot of people had the same complaints I did, I think some people think I am mad at them cause I just cant answer them. I end up calling them on the phone! I know alot of people that have absoulutely no problem with it at all, I have not been asked for a password or anything. It is just too frustrating. Thanks for the info though, any suggestions I will try them.

It may be facebook or perhaps your browser. Try using say Opera or Firefox and see if that helps.
